EdWeb
is owned and operated by two men who have worked together for over twenty
years. Don Wiitala served as a business and technology teacher, Assistant
Principal, and then as Principal of Mark Morris High School in Longview,
Washington from 1972 to 2002. Howard Meharg was the director of choral
music at Mark Morris and later Coordinator of the Freshstart (at-risk)
program. While both are retired from full-time contracts with the Longview
schools, they maintain an active association with the district.
Howard
and Don have been "obsessed" with the potential of technology
in the schools since the days of the first use of computers in the classroom.
Don became the "go to" guy at his school on all matters related
to technology and especially the Web. Howard became deeply involved in
desktop publishing in the early 90's when he headed up the school's self
study project. He has also served for fifteen years as editor of both
the six-state newsletter for the NW American Choral Directors Association,
and Washington state's ACDA newsletter. Recently he converted both of
these professional newsletters to a digital format.
EdWeb
came about during some friendly bantor as to their skills and interests
in relation to staying active after retirement. It just seemed a natural
fit, both as to the skills each brought to the effort and firm belief
that they shared on the importance of Web sites for school district as
a critical piece in internal and external communications.
"We
would be delighted to visit your district, institution, or business
and offer our expertise in developing or improving this vital communications
tool." (Howard
Meharg)
